Admissions
When can my child apply?
Applications for the next session open in first term and close in early October, before the entrance examination. Transfer applications are considered at any time if there is a vacancy.
What age should a JSS 1 applicant be?
Between 10 and 12 years old by September of the year of entry, and in or finished with Primary 6.
Is the entrance examination difficult?
It tests the Primary 6 syllabus in English and Mathematics plus general knowledge. A child who has done their primary work well will manage it. Past papers are available from the office.
Can a student join in SSS 1 or SSS 2?
Yes, where there is a vacancy in the stream requested. The student takes an entry-level paper and must bring a transfer letter and report cards.
Fees and payments
How are fees paid?
By bank transfer or deposit to the school account only. Bring the teller or transfer receipt to the bursary for an official receipt. Fees are not collected in cash by teachers.
Can fees be paid in instalments?
Two instalments per term can be arranged with the bursar in writing before the term starts.
Are there scholarships?
Yes: an entrance scholarship for the top candidates, a sibling discount and merit awards. See the admissions page.
Boarding and welfare
Are phones allowed?
Not for boarders. Each boarder has a supervised call slot weekly, and parents can reach the house staff at any time. Day students may not bring phones to school.
What happens if a boarder falls ill?
The nurse assesses the student in the sick bay. Parents are informed immediately, and serious cases are taken to our partner hospital in Enugu.
When can I visit my child?
On the published visiting day each month, between 12 noon and 4:00 pm. Other visits require permission from the Vice Principal (Administration).
What should a new boarder bring?
A prospectus list is issued with the admission letter: bedding, toiletries, uniforms, a lockable box and a set of textbooks.
Academics
How large are classes?
A maximum of 25 students per class, so every student is known and heard.
Which external examinations do students sit?
BECE at the end of JSS 3; WASSCE, NECO SSCE and UTME in SSS 3. The school is a registered examination centre.
How do you communicate results to parents?
Report cards are issued on the last day of each term, and continuous assessment scores are discussed at mid-term parent meetings. The parents' portal, when live, will show results online.
Which trade subjects do you offer?
Two from the Federal Ministry of Education list: solar panel installation and maintenance, and livestock farming. Every student chooses one in JSS 1 and continues it to SSS 3, with practical work on the school's solar system and farm. See the trade subjects page under Academics.
Do you offer extra lessons?
Supervised prep for boarders daily, and optional after-school revision for SSS 3 in second and third term.
